About the Wellness to World Cup Program
As coaches, teachers, administrators and parents, we need to look at the big picture for Canadian soccer. We want to develop “star” players who can play on the big stage, but we also want to encourage recreational players who can benefit from the health aspects of soccer and give back to the game for years to come as coaches, officials, and administrators.
Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) is the Canadian Soccer Association’s pathway to success on both fronts. LTPD is a player-centred approach that provides guidelines for correct training, competition, and recovery based on scientific principles of human development and athlete training, combined with the knowledge of expert coaches.
Player-centred means we respect the developmental needs of our players first and foremost. We ensure that our young players have fun while they learn so they want to continue playing. It also means we provide challenging opportunities for special talents so they can develop their abilities and pursue excellence. All of these needs are addressed in the seven stages of LTPD. The seven stages are listed under “Development stages and resources” below, along with the club divisions that map onto them.
The pathway is built around the seven stages of Long-Term Player Development. Here are the stages, and the club divisions that map onto each one:
- Active Start - U4 - U6 Bambinos & Micros
Active Start its all about ensuring the kids have the most enjoyable time on the soccer pitch, to learn a love for the sport, so beyond all else. Make it FUN! - Fundamentals - U7 - U8 Boys & U7 - U9 Girls
The focus at this level is to have fun with the ball while learning fundamental movement and soccer skills. Shape over the ball and orientation around the ball are fundamental. We are still focused 90% on individual skill development but you will begin to introduce team shape and tactics. - Learn to Train - U9 - U10 Girls

- I will accept the decisions of coaches, team staff and officials without incident and will abide by the rules.
- If I disagree with a coaching or team staff decision I will speak to my parents who may act on my behalf or I will speak to the coach or team staff directly to express my views in a respectful manner.
- I deserve to have fun during my soccer season and will alert parents or coaches if it stops being fun or an enjoyable experience.

Parents Code of Conduct
Supporting your children
We are a volunteer organization whose primary goal is “To promote the enjoyment of, and participation in, the sport of soccer.” By fostering players and coaches through teaching and governing the game of soccer among all club members. To encourage good sportsmanship and fair play by respecting the laws of the game, officials and players.
Our club is volunteer driven – the two largest groups your player will contact, coaches and managers are all volunteers. As our season begin it is important to keep in mind a few key points about our volunteer coaches' responsibilities and those of the parents and guardians responsible for each player. When parents and coaches have reasonable expectations of each other it creates the best learning environment possible for the most important people - the players!
Your role and responsibility as a parent creating the best learning environment include the following:
- Remember that your sons/daughters are involved in organized soccer for their enjoyment, not yours.
- Encourage your son/daughter to always play by the rules.
- Teach your son/daughter that an honest effort is as important as victory so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.
- Turn defeat to victory by helping your son/daughter to work toward skill improvement and good sportsmanship. Never ridicule or yell at your son/daughter for making a mistake.
- Provide your son/daughter with plenty of encouragement because that is the best way they learn.
- Show respect and appreciation for the volunteer coaches who give their time to provide sport activities for your son/daughter. Do not publicly question the coaches or manager’s judgment and never question they’re honesty.
- Never openly criticize the performance of a referee or an assistant referee.
- Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from children’s sporting activities.
- Celebrate effort and good play from both sides.
Referees Are Vital
Our game at the competitive level cannot be played without Referees. Respect for our Referees should always be foremost in our actions. Most importantly with your youngest Referees. All will have completed an introductory course; many will be experiencing refereeing for the first time. Most don’t continue because of negative experiences.Never openly criticize their performance and accept they may get the call wrong. Encourage them to make calls and support their decisions.
Coaches Are Volunteers
Coaches take on the responsibility for delivering valuable, BC Soccer and CVUSC managed course curriculum in a positive, encouraging, and supportive way. Coaches run practices and games with both the individual and the team in mind and communicate with parents about their child's progress or needs on the pitch when appropriate. The vast majority are volunteers who have invested a great deal of time and energy into preparing the best soccer experience possible for your child.
Parents Must Be Present
As per BC Soccer's requirements, all CVUSC coaches have or are in the process of obtaining age-specific coaching certifications. These courses are a great way to touch lightly on behaviour management techniques, but ultimately parents and guardians are responsible for their children's behaviour.
Equipment
All players must wear cleats and shinpads to practices and games. This is mandated by BC Soccer and unfortunately any player that doesn't wear both their cleats and shinpads will not be able to participate as they will not be insured in the event of an accident. As well, please ensure shin guards are covered by socks in accordance with safety practices and game rules.
Uniforms and Equipment
Player's Kit
Having the right gear helps players stay comfortable, safe, and ready to play.
To promote safety and consistency, players are required to have the proper equipment. Shin guards are mandatory for all players and must be worn under socks during every practice and game. Soccer cleats are required for outdoor play, while non-marking indoor shoes are needed for indoor sessions.
Players should also bring a labeled water bottle to stay hydrated and avoid mix-ups.
Club-provided jerseys must be worn during games, and players are expected to keep their uniforms in good condition.
