Coach Pathway
BC Soccer Coaching & Certification Pathway | Coaching and Certification continues to be a major priority for our club.
Coaches play an extremely important role in the support and development of our players, therefore coach education and certification continues to be a major priority.
Our Coaches are the face of our club and our most important resource. Coaching can be very rewarding and whether you are new to soccer or are an experienced player, our goal is to offer our coaches the resources required to make their coaching experience rewarding. We offer Certification and Coach-the-Coach clinics to give coaches on-field experience. Plus, we will continue to add resources to these pages to help you be effective in your coaching. Good coaching is as much about organization and enthusiasm as it is about athleticism.
Patience, enthusiasm and love are your most powerful tools in coaching, so bring lots of both to the pitch.
This Coach Pathway image provides a visual overview of the minimum certification requirements for the various levels of play.
Coach Equipment
At CVUSC, we are dedicated to providing players with the necessary equipment to ensure a safe and enjoyable soccer experience.
Coaches receive their equipment at the start of the season and are responsible for its care and return.
Click below to find out more info on what the Club supplies and your responsibility as a Coach.
Coaches will be supplied with a variety of equipment, which may vary depending on the age group they are coaching. Some of the items provided include a waterproof bin containing a first aid kit, pinnies, a ball pump, and, in some cases, goalie gloves and goalie jerseys. Coaches will also receive a bag of balls (with the size appropriate for the age group), a set of cones, and, in some cases, a set of pug nets.
Coaches are responsible for collecting their team’s equipment package at the beginning of the season and returning all items promptly at season’s end.
Equipment should be stored securely and maintained in good condition throughout the season.
Any damaged, lost, or missing equipment must be reported to the Operations Manager as soon as possible.
Coaches are expected to maintain an inventory of all equipment issued to their team.
If your equipment has been damaged or worn out please contact our Operations Manager for a replacement(s).
Coaches should contact the Club's Operations Manager for assistance if they are looking for additional equipment.
For any equipment related inquiries or to report issues with your equipment, please reach out to our Operations Manager, Naomi at naomi@cvusc.org
Video Enhanced Observation (VEO) Policy and Request
Watch smarter, play better
Issued by the CVUSC Technical staff.
As part of our commitment to player development, coach support, and responsible technology use, CVUSC has established the following guidelines for the use of the Veo camera system.
1. Game Recording Guidelines
Home Games Only
The Veo camera is reserved for home games only. Teams may request to have their games recorded by contacting the club's technical staff in advance (minimum 48 hours).
Away Games
The Veo camera is not to be taken to away games. If recording is desired, teams should coordinate with the opposing club to determine if they are recording and whether they are willing to share the footage.
Permission from Opposing Team
Before recording any match, especially those involving youth teams, explicit permission must be obtained from the opposing team. If permission is denied, no recording is permitted.
Youth Players & Public Spaces
Extra caution is required when filming youth teams (under 18). Some clubs restrict video recording for development squads. Even in public spaces, it is best practice to inform the opposing coach and parents of any planned recording.
2. Privacy, Security & Access Control
Private Recordings
All footage must be set to "Private" in the Veo platform and accessible only to authorized club personnel.
No Personal Storage or Sharing
Footage must not be downloaded to personal devices or shared outside official club channels. Doing so may violate privacy laws and club policy.
Trained Operators Only
Only trained and authorized personnel may operate the Veo camera. If a team wishes to designate an operator, that individual must first receive training from the club's technical staff.
3. Practice Session Recordings
Coaches who would like their training sessions recorded must submit their session plan via email at least 48 hours in advance.
The club's technical leads will respond with:
- Camera availability for the requested date/time
- Assessment of the session plan's suitability for recording
- Technical feedback, if applicable
4. Game Reports
Within 48 hours of a recorded match being uploaded, the head coach or assistant coach is expected to submit a game report.
5. Spectator and Venue Considerations
Avoid Obstructing Spectator View
When setting up the Veo camera, care must be taken to ensure it does not block the view of spectators.
Official Photographer Identification
Clubs should have a system to identify official photographers or videographers to avoid confusion or privacy concerns.
Incident Reporting
Parents, coaches, or spectators are encouraged to report any concerns related to video or photography usage to the club's technical staff.
6. Precautionary Measures & Safety Considerations
Secure Camera Mounting - Mandatory
When using the Veo camera, particularly when mounted on a pole, it must be properly anchored to a fence, fixed structure, or weighed down using sandbags or other stabilizing equipment.
Responsibility of the Operator
It is the sole responsibility of the individual setting up the camera to ensure it is safely and securely mounted. This is non-negotiable. Improper setup can result in the camera falling or being struck by a ball, posing a risk of injury.
Club Reminder
All coaches and managers must be reminded of this safety protocol. The club will reiterate this policy during staff meetings and training sessions.
7. General Guidelines and Legal Compliance
Age Restrictions
Age-appropriate policies must be followed, especially when recording teams with players under 18.
Club Policy Awareness
All club personnel using the Veo system are expected to know and follow this policy.
Data Protection Compliance
All recording activities must comply with applicable privacy and data protection laws.
For questions, training, or to request recordings, please contact the club's technical staff.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Criminal Record Checks (CRC)
Criminal record checks
At the Comox Valley United Soccer Club, the safety and well-being of our players is our top priority. As part of our commitment to create a safe and supportive environment for everyone, all coaches, assistant coaches, team managers, division managers, and any other volunteers or staff working directly with youth are required to complete a Criminal Record Check (CRC).
This policy aligns with our club's values and the standards set by our governing sports bodies. Criminal Record Checks must be completed prior to the start of each season and renewed every 3 years.
Any person who is working with youth is required to have a cleared CRC on file at the Club. Some examples may include but not limited to:
- Head Coaches
- Assistant Coaches
- Team Managers
- Division Managers
- Any adult interacting with players
BC Soccer requires that all volunteers have a current criminal record check (CRC) and that it must be re-done every three years.
The process has changed, and we no longer go through the RCMP as many of you have done in the past. Your name and email address will be entered into the BC Government Criminal Record Check online system. From there, you will receive an email with instructions to follow.
To get started with your Criminal Record Check, please reach out to our Risk Management Officer, Naomi, at naomi@cvusc.org. After your name and contact information are entered into the BC Government Criminal Record Check system, you’ll receive an email directly from them with instructions on how to complete your check.
No payment is required. If you need to go to the RCMP office for fingerprints or don’t have the correct documentation, we’ll provide you with a signed letter from the club so you won’t have to pay any fees.
The process can take anywhere from a day or two to several months. A few factors can cause delays. Occasionally, individuals are randomly selected and required to visit an RCMP office to provide fingerprints. At other times, the system may be overloaded with Criminal Record Check requests, which can also result in delays.
Generally, you will not be contacted. However, there are a few reasons why we might reach out:
- Your Criminal Record Check has not yet been completed.
- You were required to provide fingerprints, and we need to check that the process is moving forward.
- Your Criminal Record Check has expired or is no longer valid.
If you have any questions or need assistance with the process, please contact our Risk Management Officer Naomi at naomi@cvusc.org.

All parents are required to help out the club by either coaching, or assisting with the numerous other tasks that come with organizing a soccer season for our youth players.
A few of the positions include:
- Division Managers to organize age divisions and distribute information.
- Concession helpers are required once a week.
- Registration takers are required throughout the year as are helpers to hand out and re-collect equipment.
- Parents are always needed every weekend to help move goals, put up and take down goal nets and run the lines.
- Many more jobs have to be done in the club.
For more detailed Volunteering Information, please contact us!
Coach-the-Coach is training programs free to our coaches. Coach-the-Coach sessions offered by the Head Coach or an agency hired by the club.
The club maintains a large clubhouse at 1701 Lerwick Rd in Courtenay. The clubhouse has a concession, change rooms, washrooms and boardroom facilities. Visit our "Clubhouse Bookings" page for more info!
The vast majority of coaches and assistant coaches are volunteers and parents of one of the kids on their team. They all share enthusiasm for community sport, and have varying levels of experience with soccer. The club strongly recommends coaches attain the appropriate BC Soccer coach certification, mandated by BC Soccer, for the age and skill level they coach. You can visit our "Coaches" pages for more information. You can also visit the BC Soccer website for more info.
If your question is not answered here, send us an inquiry and one of the team will get back to you.
